Portsmouth Abbey students engage in a wide range of community service activities within and outside the local community. Our students work with local agencies such as My Brother's Keeper and the East Bay Food Pantry, and non-profit organizations such as the Red Cross, Saint Vincent de Paul, Star Kids Scholarship Program, Save the Bay, Norman Bird Sanctuary and Green Animals. Some Portsmouth Abbey courses also include a service-learning component as part of their academic coursework.
Students may select the community service program in the fall and spring terms to satisfy their required afternoon activity. Programming includes education and formational opportunities for understanding and developing a commitment to service with marginalized populations. Through the range of services, from moving furniture to land restoration, students help address local needs and discover their own talents. In fact, some students go on to develop service projects at home.
