Health, Safety and Wellness

Portsmouth Abbey School places the health, safety, and well-being of its students before any other priority. Each individual grows in knowledge and grace differently. Success can mean learning to live with others who are different, learning to take positive risks, learning how to fail or feeling challenged beyond perceived capabilities and not giving up.

Our stewardship of one’s overall Portsmouth Abbey experience requires vigilant awareness, clear-eyed understanding, relentless compassion and the ability to connect with each student.

“Statistically, we know that young people have the best chance at success when surrounded by adults who are consistent, predictable and overtly interested in their success. We also know that a young person has to feel safe, and they have to feel like they belong, in order to thrive.”

Paula Walter, Dean of Student Life

Having systems in place to foster connections and build a support network is vital to maintaining a communal culture of health, safety and wellbeing on campus. Our community is committed to serving students’ needs through access to care and support services, destigmatizing mental health challenges and celebrating all that students are able to accomplish.
