Two Portsmouth Abbey Students Honored in Regeneron Talent Search
At Portsmouth Abbey School, the pursuit of knowledge and grace is never confined to the classroom. On January 20, the School announced that Sixth-Form students Jimin (Jennifer) Shon and Enyu (Alaina) Zhang, have been recognized as scholars in the prestigious 2025 Regeneron Science Talent Search – a distinction that places them among the top 300 high school seniors in the nation.
Shon and Zhang’s groundbreaking research and academic excellence exemplify the intellectual curiosity and dedication that thrive at Portsmouth Abbey. Their achievements are not theirs alone but reflect the unwavering support of the entire science department, led by Dr. Stephen Zins. Under Dr. Zins’s leadership, the department maintains a culture where bold ideas and rigorous scientific inquiry are encouraged, guiding students from inspiration to achievement. In response to the School and students receiving this award, he said, “Fostering scientifically literate, independent thinkers and researchers is our ultimate departmental goal. We are lucky to work with tremendously talented students, and it’s a joy to offer our experience and other resources to help guide them. Having two Regeneron scholars is a testament to how bought-in our students are, and these awards will catalyze the next generation of Abbey researchers.”
This honor brings with it a $2,000 award for each scholar and a commemorative banner. Fellow Ravens and members of the Portsmouth Abbey community may celebrate their success by sharing their story on social media using the hashtag #RegeneronSTS.
For Shon and Zhang, this recognition is more than an individual milestone, it reflects the values at the heart of Portsmouth Abbey: intellectual seriousness, open collaboration, and a shared commitment to excellence and to one another. This accomplishment reminds us of what is possible when education is approached not just as a pursuit of knowledge but as preparation for life.
