Abbey Student Named in Hey Rhody Magazine’s “Who to Watch” for 2025Portsmouth Abbey School is proud to announce that Enyu (Alaina) Zhang ‘25 has been recognized as one of “Hey Rhody" magazine’s “Who to Watch” honorees for 2025. This annual feature highlights individuals across Rhode Island making visionary strides in their respective fields, and Zhang’s work in environmental science has earned her a place among the state’s rising stars. An interview with Zhang, conducted in celebration of this recognition, appears in four regional publications of Hey Rhody Media. Her journey to this recognition began with research applying seaweed-based solutions to combat climate change. Inspired by her childhood near Chao Lake in Anhui, China, and her experiences in Narragansett Bay, Zhang has developed a bioplastic made from sea lettuce and launched a kelp farm. Her work demonstrates the power of combining local insights with scientific innovation. Beyond her scientific achievements, Zhang’s vision extends to empowering others. She plans to create educational opportunities for K-12 students and to collaborate with local aquaculture farmers to mitigate climate impacts. Her ultimate aspiration is to become an environmental lawyer, using her expertise to champion sustainable solutions. |
